Town of Vegreville’s Face Coverings Bylaw Expires June 30

Vegreville, AB (June 23, 2021) – Town of Vegreville Bylaw No. 08-2020, the Temporary Mandatory Face Coverings Bylaw, is set to expire at month’s end.
The Bylaw, which mandated the wearing of face coverings in indoor public places and public vehicles, came into effect on November 30, 2020, and was extended beyond its original expiry date of February 28, 2021, to June 30, 2021.
“I, along with Council, feel the time is right to allow this bylaw to expire as opposed to extending it once again. This will put Vegreville in line with the province’s easing of restrictions in its ‘Open for Summer’ plan and, while there’s still work to be done, we’re happy to see that most of our eligible residents have been or are planning to be vaccinated,” stated Mayor Tim MacPhee.
As of July 1st, 2021, Alberta will enter Stage 3 of the ‘Open for Summer Plan’ which will see all restrictions lifted, including the general indoor provincial mask mandate with some exceptions in specific settings.
“Council would like to remind our community that not everyone will feel comfortable with the easing restrictions so it’s important that we respect each other as we enter into a new phase. I’d also like to stress that businesses have every right to continue to enforce their customers and clients and staff to wear a mask, even if provincial and local restrictions are being lifted,” noted MacPhee.
While mandatory masking restrictions will no longer be in effect as of July 1st, 2021, eligible residents of Vegreville are strongly encouraged to book appointments to be vaccinated. As of June 22, 2021, 65.8 percent of the eligible population (ages 12 and older) in the Vegreville/County of Minburn region had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
