Tourism, Infrastructure, and Health Spotlighted

Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk
MLA for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville

Dear friends and neighbours,

I hope that everyone in our community has safely enjoyed the warm summer weather to the best of their ability and have been able to experience the many natural wonders of Alberta. With an unprecedented pandemic that altered plans for the summer, Albertans have demonstrated immense resiliency as a community to combat COVID-19 and adapt to our new environment.

It was a pleasure to host the Hon. Tanya Fir, the Minister of Economic Development, Trade, and Tourism, and the Hon. Prasad Panda, the Minister of Infrastructure in our riding this August to see the important projects and works that are taking place. We were able to discuss the Go East of Edmonton road trip adventure and meet with local businesses including Quest Disposal and Recycling Inc., Environmental Metal Works, and Greenhills. We were also able to meet with several local mayors and councils, and show Minister Panda updates on some of the infrastructure projects that are underway.

As of September 1st, COVID-19 testing will expand to all 234 Alberta-based pharmacies in Loblaw-owned stores. This increases Alberta’s testing capacity by about 3,000 to 4,000 tests per day and will aid additional testing in advance of the 2020-2021 school year. Alberta’s 90,000 teachers and school staff have been invited to get tested, with those who have no symptoms and no known exposure to COVID-19 can be tested at participating pharmacies.
