Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Investigate Shooting Near Chipman

Fort Saskatchewan Alta. – On the evening of June 7th, 2021, the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP responded to a shooting at a rural residence in the Chipman area.

Upon arrival, police located an injured male, who was quickly transported to the hospital in stable condition.  With the assistance of the Strathcona County RCMP, the suspect was located, arrested, and held for a bail hearing.

Police are not considering this is a random shooting, and it is believed that the victim and suspect are known to each other.

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP’s GIS Unit has taking carriage of the investigation and can confirm that victim received serious but non-life threatening injuries, and is expected to make a full recovery.

Kelly Dawson, a 37-year-old male from Chipman, Alberta, has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Unlawfully Discharging a Firearm, Careless Use of a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm x 2, and Fail to Comply with Probation x 2.

Dawson has been remanded into custody and will appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on Thursday June 10, 2021, at 9:30 am.
