Provincial Government Announces Funding

Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk
MLA for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville

Dear friends and neighbours:

I hope you’ve been enjoying the month of August and have found ways to support the many amazing local businesses we have in Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville.

I was fortunate to showcase Quest Disposal & Recycling Inc. with my colleague, the Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism, Tanya Fir, recently.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Quest came up with many creative ideas to keep their small business strong. Seeing the tremendous innovation and entrepreneurship that is happening at businesses like Quest shows that Alberta’s economy will always be strengthened by the small businesses that are powering our communities.

One of the creative things Quest did during the pandemic was to develop hand sanitizer for their clients. Their work directly contributed to a healthy relaunch, keeping Albertans safe as we work to get our economy back on track.

It was also a pleasure to take Minister Fir to see Kevin Kisilevich from Go East of Edmonton for a meeting to discuss local tourism. Kevin and his team do a phenomenal job showcasing the region and highlighting why people should come discover the wonders in our great constituency.

I was also able to bring the Minister of Infrastructure, Prasad Panda, to the riding to announce local infrastructure projects. We started at InnoTech Alberta, to announce $690,000 in funding for a generator replacement and lighting & branch wiring at its building in Vegreville as part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan.

Alberta’s Recovery Plan is a bold, ambitious long-term strategy to build, diversify, and create tens of thousands of jobs, now. By building schools, roads, and other core infrastructure, we are benefitting communities

Investing in InnoTech will help keep people in the region working. Building, diversifying, and creating jobs now will put us on a path to restoring livelihoods post COVID-19.

Minister Panda and I were also able to head to Fort Saskatchewan to announce $2,740,000 in funding for a lighting and BMCS system at the Fort Saskatchewan Courthouse, as well as replacing underground electrical vaults and wiring, and a public address system replacement at the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre.

These important investments in Capital Maintenance and Renewal for both Fort Saskatchewan and Vegreville will create jobs now, while we are facing high levels of unemployment. These shovel-ready projects will preserve the value of our provincial assets and get Albertans back to work.
