Midget A Wranglers Provincials Bound

Stan Zabrick
Submitted

After an early exit from the Northern Alberta Interlock playoffs, the Midget A squad will attempt to get back on task as they head to Rocky Mountain House to compete in their Provincials tournament March 23-26.

“It’s been a tough two weeks of practices trying to stay sharp and game ready”, commented Wranglers coaching staff. “After a while, practices just don’t have that same compete level so we were lucky to get an exhibition game with Tofield. They too have a Provincials to head off to so it was mutually beneficial to get that one under our belts.

The Wranglers will kick-off the tournament’s first game against Camrose, a team they saw back in October during tiering competition. That game saw several players on both teams suspended due to a late brawl. “One of those things that didn’t need to happen but did”, was Coach Zabrick’s assessment. “We quickly learned we didn’t need to play that way and it’s long out of our system”. The team will play two games on Friday, first seeing league rival Barrhead and then facing host Rocky Mountain House in the evening showcase affair right after the tournament ceremonies. On Saturday the Wranglers square off with a South East Edmonton Recreation Association (SEERA) team to complete the round robin portion of the tournament.

“We need to finish in the top two of our pool to advance to playoffs on Sunday”, said Zabrick. “That’s objective one, make the playoff round hopefully without injury. Once we are in Sunday’s competition, I am comfortable with our boys compete level against anyone.”

Teams competing in the other pool include High Prairie, Okotoks, Carstairs, Devon and Trails West Calgary.
